Hydro excavation uses pressurised water and a vacuum truck to break up and remove soil without a blade ever touching what is buried underneath. On a live wellsite or an active pipeline right-of-way, that is the difference between exposing a line and hitting one. H&N runs hydrovac work as commercial field support: our crews are used to operating around production equipment, live lines, frozen Wyoming ground, and the access constraints that come with remote lease roads.

Hydrovac excavation — also called hydro excavation or non-destructive digging — uses pressurised water to break up soil while a vacuum truck removes the resulting slurry into an onboard tank. Because no blade or bucket enters the ground, buried pipelines, cables, and flowlines stay intact. It is the standard method for digging near live utilities and in congested wellsite or facility environments.
A hydrovac truck carries pressurised water, a vacuum system, and a debris tank. The operator uses a water wand to cut soil and a boom-mounted vacuum hose to lift the slurry into the tank, which is then hauled off for disposal. One truck handles cutting, removal, containment, and transport, which is why hydrovac works on sites where a conventional excavator cannot be used.
Hydrovac work is normally priced by the hour, plus mobilisation and disposal. What moves the number is depth and soil conditions, how far the site is from our Rock Springs base, disposal requirements for the material removed, whether the work is scheduled or a call-out, and any operator safety or permitting requirements. Pressure washing is a surface clean. Hydroblasting — also called water blasting or waterblasting — runs at pressures high enough to strip scale, paraffin, hardened deposits, and coatings from tanks, vessels, and piping, the build-up that pressure washing leaves behind. Industrial vessels and production equipment almost always require hydroblasting rather than washing.
